Its with nice sadness that I cross alongside the news that Rex Ray has handed away. Artists are skilled to look at. To start, I painted the whole paper with yellow inexperienced acrylic paint and let it dry. On the pink picture below, I made scribbled marks with three crayons (held collectively in my hand) on plain crimson building paper and painted over the scribbles with acrylic.
The image above is a beautiful mix of blue, pink and orange paints, finished by a pupil at school. I own the book and recommend it for the great essay by the artwork critic Holland Cotter and over eighty full-size images of her postcard collages, dated 1961-1990.
You too can use the original painted papers as a substrate. The exhibition also contains small works (7” x 9”) from a collection where she layered pieces of advertising posters with photos from 1950’s Widespread Mechanics magazines. He achieves so much with black and white and one coloration – red.
Triangle rays are minimize from striped and from polka dot papers. I spoke with students about tips on how to start their collage and advisable putting background papers first to define the three separate segments. Many instances, folks don’t see the potential of images until the pictures are cropped.
The collage could embrace reduce and pasted magazine images of dancers and dancer’s sneakers. The picture close by is me standing in entrance of my collage titled Amok on the Prince Street Gallery opening on July 15. I submitted 3 entries that are part of a new series titled Curvy Geometric.

Should you doodle, do drawings, paintings, or prints, you can use the drawing, portray or print in your collage, both as the bottom for the collage (it’s the substrate) or as collage papers on high.
